PPTP-GUI History
pptp-gui 2.1
- Added new icon (thanks to David from macadsl.com!), which features a connected and a disconnected state.
- Replaced the PPP-code, pptp-gui now uses the system's PPP-support. That should fix most network-problems, but you are no longer able to use the modem for a PPP-connection and pptp-gui at the same time. Please make sure your modem isn't disabled in the network preferences (and move it to the top).
- The above statement means: Classic support! Something many people have asked for.
- Because of the above changes, the interface is now simpler (and to enable the debug mode, you have to set that flag in the PPP setup in the Network Preferences).
- You no longer need to enter the DNS information into the Network Preferences (if they are provided via the PPP link, which is almost always the case).
- RELAY_PPP1 & Co are finally working. Add those flags to the server name like in NTS Tunnelbuilder (e.g. "10.0.0.138 RELAY_PPP1").
- Some errors are now written on the console and in an alert box (only in English for now, sorry).
- The application should be more stable.
- Added the ability to cancel an ongoing connection attempt (suggestion by Frits van der Veen).
- Improved the "Call manager already running"-problem. A restart always fixes the problem (this problem mainly occurs when the computer crashes). The menu command remains there just in case.
- Successfully tested application with a Linux-pptp-server (in this case arrange the modem below the Ethernet connection). One caveat: you have to add the routes manually.
- Added field for showing the IP address when connected (it's no longer printed to the console).
- Fixed localized strings (Non-English characters didn't show up properly).
- Silent mode now automatically hides the application after entering the admin password.
- Disconnection no longer needs an admin password.
- Quitting the application no longer terminates the connection. To close the connection, reopen pptp-gui or use Apple's "Internet Connect".
- Added a simple step-by-step introduction on how to use pptp-gui for ADSL in PDF format.
pptp-gui 2.0
- Fixed 'HOST NOT FOUND'-issue (Thanks to Halim Chtourou!).
- Cleaned up interface (Thanks to Halim Chtourou!).
- Added 'Show Log' menu item (which launches the Console).
- Added BIG Network Setup button for easier convenience (Thanks to Erik J. Barzeski!).
- Switched to the new Security API. There's no security leak any more, but you have to enter the administrator password to connect and disconnect now. I'm thinking about a better solution, but that should work for now.
- Fixed a bug that prevented the system from cleaning up the connection after disconnect.
- Added debug mode: Hold option while clicking on the connect button for debug mode. (Useful when there are connection problems)
- Added Silent Mode (thanks to Sierd!), which does the following:
- On open, the application connects automatically.
- On close, the application does not ask if it should disconnect.
Please only enable this mode when the connection is known to work.
- Added "Clean Up PPTP"-command. Use it when you get the message "Call manager already running". Note that it's disabled when the connection is established (since it would kill it).
- The preferences are now saved when the program is quit in addition to pressing the Connect-button.
- The password is now encrypted.
- The preferences are now stored in the current user's preferences, so you have to reenter them when updating from pptp-gui 1.1.
- Added support for transparency. The two keys are "Opaqueness" and "BackOpaqueness", but there's no interface and no support for it (suggestion by Annard Brouwer).
- Added simple help.
- Added Italian support (Thanks to Marco Muccetti and Roberto Minotti!).
- The 'Connect'-button is now disabled while the connection is established (suggestion by Frits van der Veen).
- The installation is now a disk image, which should eliminate many problems.
pptp-gui 1.1
- Added support for Mac OS X Release Candidate (and Golden Master).
- The window position is now saved (why did nobody complain about this?).
- The installer now displays information about pptp-gui since Apple finally provided information on how to do this.
- Only administrators can launch the application for security reasons.
- Added an icon.
pptp-gui 1.0b
- Added Dutch support (Thanks to Marc van der Meer and Frits van der Veen!).
pptp-gui 1.0a
- Fixed minor bug that prevented saving of preferences.
